The Waunona Neighborhood
A few new locally owned bars & restaurants have popped up in the neighborhood recently, like the Off Broadway Taphouse serving up delicious lunch, dinner & weekend brunch dishes, the Breakwater (offering waterfront dining & drinks with live music) & the Waypoint Public House, also on the water, boasting an extensive craft beer list and menu. Mr Brew’s & the Cranberry Creek Cafe are a short walk away as well.
Esther Beach and Paunack Park offer stunning views of the sunset, Capitol and Shake the Lake fireworks. You'll find swimming, playground equipment, a basketball court, conservancy space & restrooms between the two. Once the lake freezes over, you and your pooch can enjoy miles of new (on water) walking trails & upfront seats to the annual North American Championship Ice Boat Regatta. Just off the Lake Loop bike path, bicycling for work or pleasure is super easy and accessible all year round. Other walkable parks include Waunona & Thut parks.
Boat Slips & water frontage
The Waunona Woods Association owns approximately 147 ft of water frontage, .8 acres at 1504 Waunona Way. See attached lot maps for measurements.
Currently, all 6 boat slips owned by the condo association are occupied.
Kim Carryl at the Carryl Company has said that the current arrangement is that the people that have slips secured have rights to their slip until they relinquish their rights to the slip. This has become an unpopular system with the association so the board is voting in October to change that so boat slip access will rotate annually when & if there is another owner that wants a slip.
There is no rental fee for the slips, just a refundable deposit of $1500. Only slip users pay for the pier & lift maintenance, installation, removal, etc so those expenses are never taken from the reserve fund or special assessment fund.
The Waunona Woods Association also owns canoe & kayak racks that are for rent for $50 a year. Rack space is currently available.
Another boat slip option: Julie @ the Riverwood Apartments (608.222.5571) is in charge of renting the 36 boat slips in front of The Landing condo association, which is a short walk down the bike path. While they give the previous season's renters first right of refusal come January, the rest of the slips that don't get rented are advertised to the general public in February or March. She said that 18 boat slip renters from 2016 re-rented their slips in 2017 and that the chance is very high that a slip would be available to a newcomer. The season is March- October & the rental fee is $1500 per season.
